Fido may be wagging his tail as his pet owner will be relieved of one duty: picking up pet items. Well, certain items.
PetSmart has rolled out its new delivery service, a partnership with on-demand startup Deliv.
Allowing for same-day delivery, Phoenix-based PetSmart is clearly showing its eCommerce muscles in competing with the likes of Amazon Prime. The service will be initially available in four California cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as Las Vegas, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle and Chicago, with eight more en route.
Silicon Valley–based Deliv, which was founded in 2012, does just what it sounds like: It delivers products from local retailers and eCommerce companies on the same day they’re ordered. Deliv, which has buy-in from UPS, is currently available in 100 cities across the U.S. and has more than 4,000 partners, including Macy’s and Best Buy.
How does it work? PetSmart shoppers ready to check out can opt for a scheduled delivery as soon as a few hours after purchase and up to two days later. PetSmart pings Deliv, which notifies a driver to pick up and deliver the items from a PetSmart location to the designated address.
Fido may not appreciate the service as much as his owner, but in the payments world, that’s what may matter most.
