Dominican Rep.: 80-plus organizations join to oppose monopoly in transport sector
The Association of Hotels and Tourism for the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES) has publicly issued a statement in support of the appeal presented by the National Council for Private Enterprises (CONEP), which aims to eliminate the official monopoly in the cargo and passenger transport sector. The industry advocates highlighted the threat this poses for the country’s competitiveness due to the impact of a system that does not obey the rules of the free market and free competition and thus shirks its social responsibility.
ASONAHORES, which represents several firms and organizations in the tourism industry, has said it will collectively join the legal motion presented by the CONEP before the Higher Administrative Tribunal against the official monopoly, which it claims violates “fundamental rights of free transit, free enterprise and competition”.
The group and its dozens of organizations join over 80 others from across the Dominican Republic’s economic, social and cultural sectors in condemning the existing monopolies in passenger and cargo transport.
