Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton welcomed John Marston as a partner in their Governmental Practice, stationed at the Washington, D.C. office. Marston comes over from Foley Hoag, bringing a wealth of experience with him.
Marston, a former federal prosecutor, boasts an impressive record of leading investigations and trying over 50 civil and criminal cases to verdict. With expertise in federal tax investigations and trials, he has successfully defended clients across various government agencies on a range of issues including bankruptcy, securities, antitrust, and both federal and state criminal matters. His experience spans multiple industries, including life sciences, finance, energy, professional services, and non-profits.
Luca Salvi, chair of Sheppard Mullin, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The firm has experienced significant growth and an uptick in demand in investigations and white-collar defense, and John’s substantive experience will add additional depth to our bench-strength that is welcomed by our clients and our practice group. We are thrilled he has joined the firm and look forward to putting his trial skills and investigative knowledge to great use.”
Marston served for five years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Fraud and Public Corruption division, honing his skills in government investigations. Additionally, he has litigated cases against the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Justice in tax court and federal trial courts during his tenure at an international law firm.
Jonathan Aronie, co-leader of the firm’s Governmental Practice, also expressed his confidence in Marston’s abilities, stating, “We have had the pleasure of knowing John and watching his work for many years. As a result, we can say with great certainty that he will be a welcome addition to the firm and to our clients.”
Marston holds a B.A. summa cum laude from Wheaton College and a J.D. summa cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Cornell Law School.
