The European Commission has mandated major adult content platforms Pornhub, Stripchat, and XVideos to conduct comprehensive risk assessment reports and implement measures to mitigate systemic risks associated with their services.
Designated as very large online platforms under the Digital Services Act (DSA) last December, these companies are now subject to stringent regulations requiring them to take proactive steps in removing illicit and harmful content from their platforms, as reported by Reuters.
As per the EU executive’s directive, Pornhub and Stripchat are required to adhere to these DSA obligations starting April 21, with XVideos following suit on April 23. The Commission emphasized that these obligations entail the submission of detailed risk assessment reports and the implementation of mitigation measures to address systemic risks inherent in their service provision.
In a statement released by the European Commission, it outlined the specific obligations imposed on these platforms, including enhanced transparency measures concerning advertisements and facilitating access to data for academic researchers, as highlighted by Reuters.
Failure to comply with the DSA regulations could result in significant financial penalties, with companies facing fines of up to 6% of their global annual turnover for breaches.
