Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, is reportedly in discussions to integrate its generative AI model into Apple’s recently announced AI system for iPhones, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Sunday. This move signals a significant collaboration between the tech giants as Apple looks to incorporate technology from various AI companies into its devices.
The development comes as Apple plans to enhance its AI capabilities by leveraging external technologies. Notably, Apple has been discussing a potential partnership with Alphabet’s Google, its long-time search partner, to further boost its AI offerings. Additionally, Apple is expected to engage with other AI companies globally, including in regions like China, where OpenAI’s ChatGPT is banned.
One of the notable AI companies in talks with Apple is Anthropic, a startup that has been exploring ways to bring its generative AI to the new Apple Intelligence platform. The Wall Street Journal cited sources familiar with the matter, indicating that these discussions could lead to AI companies selling premium subscriptions through Apple Intelligence. However, the potential financial impact of these deals remains unclear.

Moreover, AI search startup Perplexity is also reportedly in discussions with Apple to integrate its generative AI technology into Apple Intelligence. This information was shared by a source close to Reuters.
Earlier this month, Apple announced its long-awaited AI strategy, which includes the integration of new Apple Intelligence technology across its suite of apps, such as Siri. This strategy also aims to introduce ChatGPT to Apple devices, marking a significant advancement in the company’s AI capabilities.
While these discussions highlight a promising direction for Apple’s AI ambitions, they are not yet finalized and could potentially fall through, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. Successful deals with Apple would enable AI companies to achieve wider distribution of their products, benefiting from the extensive reach of Apple’s ecosystem.
