Argentina’s National Commission for the Defence of Competition has a new head: Esteban Manuel Greco, who sworn in today by President Mauricio Macri. Mr. Greco will replace Ricardo Andrés Napolitani, a figure associated with the former government who had been in charge of the CNDC since 2008. The Commission will operate as part of the Ministry of Production.
In his speech following the swearing-in ceremony, President Macri explained that the Commission will be tasked with “empowering small and middle businesses and avoiding monopolies or oligopolies, which become lost jobs for Argentines and which make things cost more.”
Mr. Macri dedicated much of the speech to the issue of high inflation, which has struck Argentina recently. The president assured gathered functionaries and press that “We are working systematically to bring down inflation, although it will take some time to lower it gradually.”
