The Colombian Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has sanctioned Booking Colombia for operating without proper registration, as well as for violating various competition and business rules. With this, the Ministry has requested that the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) and the Superintendence of Corporations (SS) join the investigation.
The SIC will open investigations against Booking for alleged uncompetitive practices, including misleading advertising, unfair competition and abuse of dominance, among others.
“We want to set a precedent and notify micro, small and medium-sized companies that have not registered legally, or have done so part-way, that it’s time to play ‘For the good of Colombia,” said Minister of Commerce , Industry and Tourism, María Claudia Lacouture. She added that “this is why we are working, so that all platforms like this have representation in Colombia, with their activities duly regulated …”
