In a statement released last week, Central Cerveza de Colombia (CCC), an industry group representing Colombian beer makers Postobón and Chile’s Compañía Cervecerías Unidas (CCU), expressed the companies’ strong objections about possibly growing antitrust concerns, both nationally and on an international level.
The statement added that the companies consider a set of measures announced in early May by the country’s Superintendence for Industry and Commerce to combat this problem to be insufficient. The companies criticised the narrow scope of the proposals, which require only periodical reports regarding financial and advertising operations.
The association clarified that they support legislation that “protects consumers, the free development of the country’s beer market, and which will not put good business competition at risk”, and to avoid excessive market power concentration that could lead to higher prices or a drop in innovation, quality or variety.
