International experience has demonstrated that the elimination of regulatory obstacles to competition, even when these seem irrelevant, can bring about tangible benefits. To cite one example: in 2015, the OCDE calculated that the stimulation of competition for public contracts in Romania, getting one full competitor into the bidding on average for all construction sector government contracts, could generate benefits of over 4018 million euros.
In this document, Mexico’s Competition regulator COFECE presents a Miscellany – a proposal to collaborate with state and local authorities in order to construct a regulation framework that can encourage more efficient markets. The end goal is to avoid unnecessary costs, allowing for the active participation of people and enterprises leading towards reaping the benefits of competition: more and better products and services, at more affordable prices, with greater investment and innovation leading to economic growth and wellbeing.
The Federal Commission for Economic Competition presents this work, consisting of a review of more than 400 laws and regulations for identifying barriers to competition in five high-impact economic sectors and pinpointing over 30 specific barriers in today’s lawbooks.
