European Union antitrust regulators have reinitiated their examination of Adobe’s proposed acquisition of Figma, a cloud-based design platform valued at $20 billion. This development was disclosed in a European Commission filing on Friday, with a decision deadline set for February 5th, reported Reuters.
The investigation had been temporarily halted last month as regulators awaited additional information requested from both Adobe and Figma.
Concerns raised by the European Union revolve around the potential consequences of this merger. The antitrust watchdog argues that the deal could eliminate a significant competitor for Adobe, giving it the power to limit competition within the global interactive product design tools market.

To gain regulatory approval, Adobe is likely to be required to propose remedies aimed at addressing these concerns. This could involve commitments to maintain competition in the industry, preventing market dominance.
This resumption of the investigation indicates a meticulous approach to antitrust matters by EU regulators, signaling a potential hurdle for Adobe’s ambitious bid for Figma.
