Honduras’ Commission for the Defense and Promotion of Competition celebrated the National Free Competition Day with a major forum where regional representatives discussed the impact of disruptive technologies, as well as the effects of new business models (particularly for mobile apps such as Uber or Cabify) on competition and commercial law.
The event was attended by Latin American competition authorities, including representatives of Colombia’s SIC and Mexico’s COFECE. David Lamb, COFECE”s General Director for the Promotion of Competition explained that the regulations enacted in Mexico allow new companies to enter wider markets and offer their services, looking to grow their share of the market once inside, while Francisco Melo from Colombia expounded on the risks, effects and impact of e-commerce for normal competition.
Alberto Lozano, president of Honduras’ competition agency, concluded the meeting with an appeal for greater investment and openness in his country’s economy.
