Chemical giants Dow and DuPont have taken a further step towards a global merger. The companies have announced they will aim towards a merger between their respective Mexico units by the end of 2017. The companies are now only waiting for authorization by Mexico’s Federal Commission for Economic Competition (COFECE), said Claudia Jañez, President for DuPont’s Mexico, Central America and Caribbean operations.
“This year we handed over all the necessary documents to COFECE. While they reach their decision we will continue to work separately from Dow. We are still in competition” she continued. Jañez also said that they expect little risk of having the merger declared a risk for consumers, and foresee a positive answer.
“We are hoping to get final authorization by the end of the month, in order to implement the merger next year. We will do it in 18 months” said the regional President. Jañez pointed out that DuPont has operated in Mexico for 9 decades, making the country one of the most important parts of its global operations.
