Microsoft Joins Thorn and All Tech Is Human to Enact Strong Child Safety Commitments for Generative AI
By: Courtney Gregoire (Microsoft On the Issues)
While countless individuals harness AI to enhance their productivity and creativity, there exists a concerning risk of misuse of these technologies. In line with our enduring dedication to online safety, Microsoft has partnered with Thorn, All Tech is Human, and other prominent entities to combat the misuse of generative AI technologies in perpetrating and proliferating sexual harms against children. Today, Microsoft pledges to integrate preventative and proactive principles into our generative AI technologies and products.
This collaborative initiative, spearheaded by Thorn—a nonprofit devoted to shielding children from sexual abuse—and All Tech Is Human—an organization committed to collectively addressing the intricate intersection of technology and society—aims to mitigate the risks posed by generative AI to children. These principles harmonize with and extend Microsoft’s approach to tackling abusive AI-generated content. They emphasize the necessity of a robust safety architecture grounded in safety by design to shield our services from abusive content and conduct, as well as the imperative of robust collaboration across industries, governments, and civil society.
Our enduring commitment to combatting child sexual exploitation and abuse is demonstrated through longstanding partnerships with organizations such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Internet Watch Foundation, the Tech Coalition, and the WeProtect Global Alliance. Additionally, we extend support to INHOPE, recognizing the importance of international efforts to facilitate reporting. These principles will guide our comprehensive approach as we move forward.
As part of our Safety by Design endeavor, Microsoft pledges to implement these principles and provide transparent updates on our progress regularly. For comprehensive details on our commitments, please refer to Thorn’s website…
