Paramount Global’s CBS Sports will produce two National Football League (NFL) games set to air on Netflix this Christmas Day, marking a significant milestone for the video streaming platform.
According to Reuters, this development comes as part of Netflix’s ongoing efforts to expand its live sports offerings, with the NFL deal being the first time the streaming giant has licensed rights to one of the world’s most prominent sports leagues.
The move to stream live NFL games represents a notable shift for Netflix, which is traditionally known for its on-demand content rather than live sports. Per Reuters, the partnership with CBS Sports ensures that the production quality of these games will meet the high standards expected by NFL fans. CBS holds the broadcast rights for over-the-air television in the cities of the competing teams, while NFL+, the league’s live streaming service, will make the games available on mobile devices across the United States.

This Christmas Day broadcast is just the beginning of Netflix’s foray into live sports. The company had announced in May that it would stream at least one NFL game on Christmas Day in 2025 and 2026 as part of a three-season exclusive agreement with the NFL. The agreement underscores Netflix’s commitment to exploring new content avenues and broadening its appeal to sports fans.
The NFL remains the most-watched sports league in the U.S., with this year’s Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers drawing a record 123.7 million viewers. The inclusion of NFL games on Netflix could potentially attract a new audience to the platform, eager to watch their favorite teams compete on one of the biggest holidays of the year.
