The Peruvian Association of Airline Companies (APEA) has accused low-cost airline Viva Air Peru, which will start operations in the domestic market this week, of being excessively unclear when communicating it’s prices to consumers through social networks. For this reason, the union has denounced the new airline before competition regulator INDECOPI over their alleged infringement of the rules of competition and dishonest or misleading advertising.
APEA has asked INDECOPI to slap Viva Air Peru with a fine of 700 UIT (equivalent to $860,000 USD, approx.), to consider the infraction as “very serious” and to include the company in the National Registry of Offenders. “The complaint was filed two weeks ago, and at the moment we are not going to provide details. We are waiting for the INDECOPI to review it and when that happens we will make it public,” explained guild lawyer Gabriel Mohana.
APEA is made up of the country’s major airlines, including Peruvian Airlines, Latam Peru, Aero Transporte, Star Peru, Helicópteros del Sur, Servicios aéreos de los Andes, and Aerolínea Caribe Perú.
