Protecting Civil Rights in the Face of AI

In today’s digital era, artificial intelligence (AI) pervades various aspects of society. However, AI systems often carry inherent biases, especially when utilized in fields like finance, employment, law enforcement, and housing. The deployment of AI in these sectors has amplified existing societal prejudices. For instance, the implementation of facial recognition technology in law enforcement has resulted in wrongful convictions of people of color due to inaccuracies and biases inherent in AI systems. These biases stem from historical injustices and necessitate regulation through policies aimed at protecting the rights of marginalized communities. Can civil rights and algorithmic systems coexist harmoniously and fairly?
