The merger between Six Flags Entertainment and Cedar Fair, owner of Schlitterbahn, is set to finalize on July 1, according to a joint announcement made on Tuesday. This significant merger will signal the new company’s departure from Texas, as it plans to relocate its headquarters to Charlotte, North Carolina.
Currently, Six Flags is headquartered in Arlington, Texas, while Cedar Fair operates out of Sandusky, Ohio. Following the merger, the combined entity will continue to operate under the Six Flags name, establishing a major presence in the amusement park industry.
The merger will create a theme park powerhouse, bringing together a vast portfolio that includes 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resorts. Notable properties in this merger include Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and the Schlitterbahn water parks located in New Braunfels and Galveston. This expansive operation will cover 17 states and extend into three countries, boasting a valuation of approximately $8 billion.
The consolidation of these two entertainment giants is anticipated to create numerous synergies and bolster their competitive edge in the theme park industry, offering a more diverse range of attractions and amenities to visitors.
