Ever more people switch to Pay-TV services in Spain. Growth in the number of subscribers to one of Spain’s main providers continued from January to March, surpassing the 5.7 million mark – a 6.4% annual increase, as revealed in the CNMC’s annual sector report.
The most recent study is the first to include data from digital platforms, such as Filmin, while it continues to ignore subscription-based services including Netflix. In the CNMC’s findings, Spain’s pay-TV providers have grown across the board.
The figures have also confirmed Movistar as the foremost market leader in terms of customer base, with over 3.7 million subscribers (65% of the market). Vodafone, with one million subscribers, places second place with Orange a more distant third place. Movistar also leads the pack in terms of profits, garnering 42.5% of total revenue in the market and an annual growth of 4.3%. Both Vodafone and Orange are expected to see a jump in subscribers after much-anticipated product launches at the end of this year.
