MásMóvil and Orange have struck a co-investment agreement in Spain, which will allow the companies to deploy a next-generation network across the country. The companies plan to deploy FTTH fibre optics to over one million homes.
MásMóvil will develop up to 500,000 housing unit connections in low-competition areas (focusing on settlements with little or now presence of FTTH), while Orange will target a similar number in High-competition areas (major cities).
MásMóvil has said that the move comes as a result of the agreements struck by Orange España with the country’s economic regulator, which allowed the multinational to buy smaller rival Jazztel. The move also included the demand that some of MásMóvil’s assets be purchased by Orange.
Orange’s ambitious plans for Spain include reaching up to 14 million houses by 2020. The company took the opportunity to clarify that this investment plan does not depend on working with any other operators.
