Will Hayter, who has served as Senior Director for the Digital Markets Unit since 2021, has been named as the Executive Director for Digital Markets. With a distinguished career spanning roles at the Cabinet Office, Ofcom, and the UK Regulators Network, Hayter brings a wealth of experience to his new position. His appointment underscores the CMA’s commitment to addressing challenges in digital markets and regulating emerging technologies. Hayter will report directly to the CEO and assume roles as a member of the Senior Executive Team and as an executive member of the CMA Board.
In another significant appointment, Chris Prevett has been appointed as the permanent General Counsel, following his interim role since July 2022. Prevett, who has been associated with the CMA since its inception in 2014, has a robust legal background, including senior roles in private practice at Travers Smith LLP and Slaughter and May. His extensive experience positions him well to lead the CMA’s Legal Service and the Policy and International teams. Prevett will continue to provide crucial legal counsel across the CMA’s high-profile cases and associated litigation. Like Hayter, he will report directly to the CEO and maintain his roles within the Senior Executive Team and as an advisor to the CMA Board.
Expressing her satisfaction with the appointments, Sarah Cardell, CEO of the CMA, remarked, “I am delighted to announce appointments to the roles of Executive Director for Digital Markets and General Counsel. Both are well-deserved and follow highly competitive open recruitment rounds.” Cardell’s sentiments reflect the CMA’s confidence in the newly appointed executives and their potential to drive the organization’s objectives forward.
