An Amazon artificial intelligence (AI) service that was announced in April is reportedly being tried by thousands of users.
The service, which is called Amazon Bedrock and is offered by the cloud division Amazon Web Services (AWS), competes with offerings from the cloud businesses of Microsoft and Google and allows businesses to create applications with a range of AI models, Reuters reported Wednesday (July 26).
Organizations such as Sony, Ryanair and Sun Life have come on board with Amazon’s Bedrock, AWS Vice President of Database, Analytics and Machine Learning Swami Sivasubramanian said in the report.
“Our mission is to make every company an AI company,” Sivasubramanian said, per the report.
In addition to those organizations, Amazon has drawn other customers to the new service, according to the report. While the exact number of customers has been kept quiet, the disclosure of thousands of Bedrock users, previously unreported, shows that AWS’ efforts are attracting customers.
Amazon has attributed the success of its AI tools to the range of AI models it offers and the fact that the company’s cloud division already hosts the data of many customers, the report said.
The Amazon Bedrock offering is not yet generally available, but it will be available to any customer “soon,” Sivasubramanian said, per the report.
When announcing Amazon Bedrock in April, AWS said the new offering gives customers access to foundation models (FMs) developed by AWS and other companies so they can choose the model that is best suited to their needs and use it to build their own generative AI application.
“Bedrock is the easiest way for customers to build and scale generative AI-based applications using FMs, democratizing access for all builders,” Sivasubramanian said at the time in a blog post. “Bedrock will offer the ability to access a range of powerful FMs for text and images — including Amazon’s Titan FMs, which consist of two new [large language models (LLMs)] we’re also announcing today — through a scalable, reliable and secure AWS managed service.”
In June, AWS launched a $100 million program to help customers accelerate their implementation of generative AI. The new AWS Generative AI Innovation Center connects the company’s AI and machine learning (ML) experts with customers and partners around the globe.
