Apple Music is lowering the cost of its service by offering new pricing in Apple Stores and at some retailers.
According to a report, Apple rolled out a new 12-month Apple Music gift card that costs $99, amounting to $8.25 a month, which saves consumers around 18 percent compared to the standard rate of $9.99 a month. The move, the report speculated, is being driven by efforts to boost foot traffic to Apple Stores. The discounted Apple Music gift card isn’t available online yet, and it may not be in stock at all the physical stores either, the report noted. Consumers looking to purchase the gift card online can do so via eBay’s store front and Walmart online. Apple is no stranger to offering discounts for its music streaming service. Students can get an up to 50 percent discount, and families of up to six people pay $15 a month, which amounts to $2.50 a person, the report noted.
The move on the part of Apple comes as the company is trying to make its music service more popular with consumers. According to a recent Forbes report, the music streaming service partnered with top-label fashion designers to introduce custom playlists that are curated by them. The first to join the list was Alexander Wang, who released three new playlists in partnership with Apple, along with editorial content and featured videos — a new feature that also lets curators upload unique images in their gallery. The tech giant’s plan to work with fashion designers comes after its partnership with Burberry late last year. As a curator, Burberry now has a unique page on Apple Music’s platform, which reportedly features editorial content and musicians from the British Isles.
