Apple announced on Monday (Dec. 3) that it will open a new online store dedicated to veterans and active military personnel, according to a report. The store will offer eligible military customers a 10 percent discount on Apple products, including in-demand items like iPhones, accessories and even the Apple Watch.
The move will be slightly different from Apple’s education pricing, which offers a discount to newly accepted college students and their parents, as well as homeschool teachers and traditional education faculty and staff.
The idea of a discount for veterans and active military isn’t new, but the dedicated store is new. It is overall similar to the education pricing, which doesn’t allow for discounts on some Apple products, like the Apple TV. The military discount also extends to family.
The new online store is conveniently opening in time for the holiday shopping season. Apple, in a statement, praised the military.
“At Apple, we are deeply grateful to the men and women of our armed forces. We’re proud to offer active military and veterans a new, dedicated online store with special pricing as an expression of our gratitude for their brave service,” Apple said.
Furthermore, Apple said, “the Veterans and Military Purchase Program (“Program”) is a benefit provided by Apple Inc. (“Apple”) to current and veteran members of the U.S. Military, National Guard and Reserve. The Program is also offered to their immediate family members who also reside in their same household. The Program is intended for personal use only.”
The news comes after Apple inked a deal with Amazon to launch an official store. The Amazon online store will sell items like the iPhone XR and the new iPad Pro, as well as Beats headphones.
“Amazon is constantly working to enhance the customer experience, and one of the ways we do this is by increasing selection of the products we know customers want,” the company said in a statement. “We look forward to expanding our assortment of Apple and Beats products globally.”
