After Apple’s introduction to its loyalty program at WWDC last week, supermarket chain Wegmans has announced its plans to integrate its Shoppers Club rewards program on Apple Pay.
Alongside making payments using Apple Pay at the company’s 86 store locations, customers would also be able to redeem discounts using the rewards card stored in the Wallet app on iOS 9 starting fall of this year.
“Efficient, accurate, private and secure checkout is important to us because it is important to our customers, and Apple Pay has delivered,” said Jo Natale, the company’s spokesperson. “Our customers will be thrilled to hear that they will soon be able to redeem Shoppers Club discounts while using Apple Pay.”
Apple Pay users would now also be able to use the loyalty programs of other retailers like BJ’s Wholesale Club, Kohl’s and J. C. Penney. Meanwhile, they can continue to use it at 66 different merchant stores across the U.S.
Apple’s launch of its in-app loyalty program aligns with the fast-changing customer preference to pay with their phone instead of swiping a card. A recent survey jointly conducted by PYMNTS and InfoScout discovered that over 30 percent of Apple Pay users made purchase decisions based on a merchant’s acceptance of Apple Pay.
In some other findings, about 77 percent of respondents preferred Apple Pay to swiping a card for the convenience of speed.
