WEX, a global provider of corporate payment solutions, announced Wednesday (Aug. 23) it has been awarded a five-year blanket purchase agreement by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to supply vehicle telematics products and services through its GSA Schedule 70 contract.
In a press release, the company said the agreement gives DHS fleet managers from 13 operational and support components the ability to purchase WEX Telematics solutions. These solutions enable DHS to maximize fleet efficiency and performance, integrate fleet-focused data across multiple platforms and advance its ability to deliver on daily missions.
“The Department of Homeland Security operates one of the largest fleets in the U.S. today, and it’s an honor to be selected to work with this team,” said Bernie Kavanagh, senior vice president and general manager of North America large fleet and strategic relationships at WEX, in the press release. “We’re looking forward to arming DHS with WEX technology to provide their fleet managers access to data-driven insights to help them manage the daily operations of their fleet.”
According to WEX, the DHS operates a fleet of approximately 52,000 vehicles, making it one of the largest federal agency fleets in the country. Its fleet operation supports its wide array of missions, including preventing terrorism and enhancing security, managing U.S. borders, administering immigration laws, securing cyberspace and ensuring disaster resilience.
The contract with the government agency comes as WEX is branching into new areas. To help corporate buyers get on board with electronic payments in their accounts payable (AP) departments, WEX announced earlier this month it is launching a new platform to support the shift. The firm said it is rolling out an Integrated Payables application, a cloud-based, bank-agnostic tool that supports electronic payments in AP.
The Integrated Payables platform supports virtual accounts, ACH, network settlements, EFT and check payments, and aims to boost transparency and control over supplier payments. Data from the platform also integrates into existing financial platforms for easier reconciliation, according to WEX.
