TikTok to Test Live Subscriptions

TikTok

TikTok has announced a program to allow viewers to pay to subscribe to specific streamers, a report said Tuesday (May 24).

Called Live Subscription, it will give fans access to features like a subscriber-only chat, creator-specific emotes and badges. Some creators have said they look forward to a “predictable” monthly income.

The report notes that making money from TikTok directly has never been easy, though the company said recently said it wanted to share some of its ad revenue with “eligible creators.” The live streamers who had been part of a creator program could get tips from viewers.

Subscriptions would change that and could be a straightforward thing for viewers, who are billed every month, with the money going to those making the videos.

TikTok has reportedly been going through some tests so Vietnamese users can play games on the app, PYMNTS wrote.

This will help the company go more into gaming. It would “boost advertising revenue as well as the amount of time users spend on the app,” the report said.

The report noted that TikTok has more than 1 billion active monthly users, with 70% of people in Vietnam under 35 and considered tech savvy.

The report said that TikTok has been looking into ways to offer gaming access to southeast Asia. Anonymous sources have said games could roll out there in the third quarter this year. The company has also been looking into bringing HTML5 games, which are “mini-games” on its apps, partnering with third-party companies to do so.

A representative said the company was “always looking at ways to enrich our platform and regularly test new features and integrations that bring value to our community.”
