When U.S. basketball team Orlando Magic hosts Utah Jazz Friday, Dec. 19, fans will be standing in the first NBA arena to offer Apple Pay
That’s when the technology will be debuting in Amway Center as part of a partnership with the Magic, Chase and E15 Group — the tech and analytics side of Levy Restaurants. The Magic is the first team to offer this service at a professional basketball arena.
“The Magic are committed to our fans and their experience and are continually looking for ways to innovate in order to make that experience legendary,” Magic CEO Alex Martins said in a company news release. “We are thrilled to join our partners Chase and Levy Restaurants to be the first NBA team to integrate Apple Pay into its home venue and specifically the Amway Center, the most technologically advanced arena in North America.”
Starting on Dec. 19, Apple Pay will be available at several concession and Magic retail locations throughout the arena; additional locations are expected to be added throughout the season. To add a little incentive for fans, those who use their Chase Card with Apple Pay will be in the running to receive special offers and Magic-themed prizes.
It may be the first NBA team to accept Apple Pay, but this isn’t the Magic’s first time testing new technology in the arena. iBeacons are already installed throughout Amway Center as part of the team’s technology efforts to bring fans instant communication and updates while in the arena. Google Glass technology is also being used by the Magic.
