MasterCard announced yesterday that it has appointed Betty DeVita as Chief Commercial Officer of MasterCard Labs in New York, a team dedicated to the research and development of global payment innovations. DeVita will be responsible for developing and managing strategic partnerships focused on commercializing existing and future MasterCard Labs assets, says the company. Some of the existing Labs innovations being commercialized, for example, include ShopThis! and Qkr! with MasterPass.
“MasterCard Labs has a proven track record in generating new ideas, fast-tracking the best ideas from concept through prototype, piloting and commercializing — faster than ever before,” said Garry Lyons, Chief Innovation Officer at MasterCard, in the release. “[DeVita’s] focus on commercialization of these ideas with existing and new partners will have a direct effect on the commerce evolution.”
Prior to this new role, DeVita served as President of MasterCard Canada. Effective May 1, Brian Lang will replace DeVita, driving regional strategy to expand the business and deliver new payments technology to the market. Prior to taking on this position, Lang was head of business development for MasterCard in the Middle East and Africa.
Chris McWilton, President, North American Markets, said in the release that Lang thoroughly understands the Canadian market and will be a “strong leader” for Canada, helping to grow and differentiate MasterCard as the company brings new technologies to the market.
