When developing a new business, it’s safe to say that there are a few things to consider before launching to the public. Aside from company name and intellectual property, new companies may also want to check into logos currently in use by other businesses.
One company that’s learning this lesson the hard way is music streaming company Pandora Media. Just last week, PayPal filed suit against Pandora, claiming similarities between both businesses’ logos. Following Pandora’s new logo released in late 2016, PayPal believes its new blue P is too close to their logo, which may cause some confusion on social media sites.
The lawsuit shared, “It was against this backdrop that Pandora deserted its longstanding logo and latched itself onto the increasingly popular PayPal logo as part of its efforts to catch up to its competition.”
While PayPal said it reached out to Pandora to try to settle this matter privately, those correspondences went unanswered by the music streaming company.
