A new study has determined that the iPhone 5s consumes the most data on average compared with a diverse selection of other smartphones.
The study, led by JDSU, confirmed that the iPhone 5s, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4, are responsible for a large amount of current data traffic among mobile devices, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 23.
The iPhone 5s was more consumptive than Apple’s line of iPad tablets, the report showed.
Interestingly, a small subset of smartphone users on the LTE/4G network account for a disproportionately large amount of the data consumption.
“The most extreme 0.1% of all users consume nearly half of all downlink LTE data,” the report stated. “Extreme behavior in [Universal Mobile Telecommunications System] required 10 times as large a fraction (0.1% -> 1%) to get to half of all downlink data. As such, we can declare that LTE users are ten times more extreme than UMTS users.”
Will the iPhone continue to be the king of data consumption? Apple is reportedly looking into adding new functionalities to the upcoming iPhone 6. Get a hint at what may be coming by clicking here.
