Digital-first healthcare company Babylon closed an acquisition deal for consumer health engagement firm Higi to deliver its services across the U.S.

Higi offers remote monitoring, and its Smart Health Stations are located within 5 miles of 73% of the U.S. population. Monitoring is also available on at-home connected devices, and within its 50-state clinical network, according to a press release on Wednesday (Jan. 5).

Babylon’s scalable technology platform, combined with Higi’s capabilities, will help Babylon in its goal of “reengineering every touchpoint in the healthcare continuum.” With Higi, Babylon can offer an end-to-end solution that can assist healthcare payers, providers and retailers.

“Our mission is to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for every person, irrespective of the lottery of the geographic location, economic status or social hierarchy in which they find themselves,” said Dr. Ali Parsa, CEO of Babylon.

“Our partnership with Higi will help us extend the range and reach of our services across the United States. We have known Higi’s executives, board and investors for a long time and share common values with them,” Parsa said.

The acquisition will bring Babylon’s digital healthcare solutions to millions of existing Higi customers, including some that live in more remote areas with little access to healthcare. Last year, the Higi network hosted 11 million sessions, with consumers using their various remote monitoring platforms to check in with or better understand their health.

As one company, we will deliver so much more, and alongside Babylon, we are excited to continue our work to bring affordable, accessible healthcare to all.”

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in London, Babylon supports a global patient network across 15 countries, with 15 languages available. Babylon helped a patient every 5 seconds in the first half of last year, with approximately 1.7 million AI interactions and 1.3 million consultations.

Headquartered in Chicago and founded in 2012, Higi strives to make it easier for people to measure, track and act on their health data.
