After announcing that they are leaving ‘Project Runway” following 16 seasons together, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are taking their talents to Amazon. The two stars will work on a fashion shopping experience with the eCommerce retailer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m most excited that my journey with my dear friend and colleague, Tim Gunn, is far from over,” Klum said. “We will be partnering with Amazon for a new show, and we’re excited for everyone to see what we’re designing next!”
Not many details are known about what the outlet describes as an “untitled global fashion competition series.” However, the show is said to “make fashion accessible to a wide and global audience and offer a fresh take in the reality space, while appealing to viewers who are entertained by competition, storytelling and authenticity,” according to the outlet. Along with the series, it was reported that viewers will also be able to partake in a shoppable experience.
The news comes as Amazon rolled out Prime Wardrobe to all of its U.S. Prime customers earlier this year. An executive with the eCommerce company said the idea behind the service was to take the “pain points” out of shopping, ABC News reported in June.
Kate Dimmock, the fashion director at Amazon Fashion, told ABC News in June that the eCommerce retailer sees a “huge opportunity” in fashion. Overall, data from the U.S. Department of Commerce indicates that Americans spent over $450 billion on online shopping in 2017. And Amazon has “really cornered the market on innovation” in the online shopping sphere, Good Housekeeping’s Style Director Lori Bergamotto told ABC in June.
Amazon debuted Amazon Prime Wardrobe in 2017. The service allows consumers to order items like shoes, clothing or accessories at no upfront charge. After seven days, customers decide what they will keep and pay for, and the rest goes back free of charge. Announcing the rollout of the service, Amazon said on its website, “Prime Wardrobe is a new service that brings the fitting room to you, so you can try the latest styles and find your perfect fit before you buy.”
