Apple Vision Pro to Support 3D Movies, Streaming Services, Shareable Content

Apple has announced new entertainment experiences that will be available upon the Feb. 2 release of its mixed-reality headset, Apple Vision Pro.

The device will “turn any space into the ultimate personal theater,” the company said in a Tuesday (Jan. 16) press release.

The Apple Vision Pro has more pixels than a 4K TV for each eye, so users can expect brilliant color, clarity and an immersive visual experience, according to the release. Additionally, the device comes equipped with an advanced Spatial Audio system that delivers rich sound and personalized audio to each ear.

One of the features of the Apple Vision Pro is visionOS, an operating system that seamlessly blends digital content with the user’s physical space, the release said. Users can place apps, games and other spatial experiences anywhere within their space and scale them to the perfect size.

The visionOS also introduces Environments, dynamic vistas with realistic soundscapes that evolve based on the time of day, per the release.

The Apple Vision Pro supports several technologies within the Apple ecosystem, according to the release. SharePlay allows users to watch TV shows, movies and play games with other Apple device users. The device also introduces Travel Mode, which ensures stabilized visuals during plane use, and Guest User, enabling users to share specific apps and experiences with family and friends.

The integration of the Apple TV app into the Apple Vision Pro offers users access to a wide range of content, the release said. They can enjoy series and films from Apple TV+ and streaming services like Disney+, ESPN, NBA, MLB and more.

The Apple TV app also features the Cinema Environment, which transforms any space into a personal theater, allowing users to choose their favorite seat and enjoy a cinematic experience, per the release.

Apple Vision Pro supports 3D movies, according to the release. With the device, users can experience more than 150 3D movies.

The device also supports Apple Immersive Video, a format that features 180-degree 3D 8K recordings captured with Spatial Audio, transporting viewers to the heart of a place, moment or story, the release said.

Apple has also developed a free app called Encounter Dinosaurs, which ships with the Apple Vision Pro, per the release. This app allows users to interact with giant, three-dimensional reptiles as if they are bursting through their own physical space.

When announcing the upcoming launch of Apple Vision Pro on Jan. 8, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that “the era of spatial computing has arrived.”

“Its revolutionary and magical user interface will redefine how we connect, create and explore,” Cook said.
