Discover announced in a press release that it is has partnered with Jewel-Osco in a campaign to fight hunger in Illinois.
The two-month campaign, which will run from July 26 through September 26, 2017, gives Discover card members the chance to participate in the fight against hunger through helping a local food bank. For every Discover card purchase made at a Jewel-Osco store, Discover will donate the equivalent of one meal ($0.09) — up to $500,000 — to United States-based nonprofit organization Feeding America.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, hunger is a problem affecting one in eight people nationwide. Discover employees throughout the country support their local food banks every year through food drives and volunteerism. In addition, Discover supports those food banks with funding to help them provide aid to local families.
“We are excited about the opportunity to join with Jewel-Osco as an extension of Discover’s commitment to make a difference throughout our home state of Illinois,” said Maureen Powers, vice president of rewards for Discover. “Hunger is a problem impacting the lives of so many Americans, and Discover is proud to work with Jewel-Osco and support Feeding America as they continue to provide access to healthy meals for those in need.”
Jewel-Osco is a grocery and drug retailer with 187 locations spanning Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.
“Hunger relief is an issue that Jewel-Osco takes very seriously,” said Doug Cygan, president of Jewel-Osco. “We have a history of working with many food banks in the Chicagoland area and believe this campaign is a step in the right direction.”
