GoodRx and MedImpact Collaborate on Lower Drug Prices

MedImpact and GoodRx have partnered to deliver lower prices on prescriptions at the pharmacy counter.

The collaboration will integrate GoodRx’s prescription pricing into MedImpact’s pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) services, providing a seamless experience for MedImpact members at the pharmacy counter, the companies said in a Wednesday (Sept. 13) press release

Under the new savings solution, eligible MedImpact members filling a prescription for a generic medication will have their benefits compared to GoodRx’s prices, according to the press release. The lowest price will be automatically applied to the member’s deductible, eliminating the need for individuals to compare costs themselves.

“We are bringing together the best of what GoodRx does with the best of what MedImpact does to make it incredibly convenient for MedImpact’s members to start and stay on their prescribed treatments, and to fully integrate their clinical data. We truly feel the future of healthcare lies in these types of integrations,” Cynthia Meiners, strategic program development officer at GoodRx, said.

The collaboration between GoodRx and MedImpact allows both companies to deliver more savings to consumers without any additional effort on their part, the release said. Additionally, the program provides seamless data integration, ensuring that patients are alerted about any negative drug interactions through MedImpact’s rigorous drug safety review.

“This delivers hassle-free savings to members, while helping payers capture clinical and adherence data they may have otherwise missed,” Marcus Sredzinski, senior vice president at MedImpact, said.

The new savings program will be available to eligible MedImpact members starting from Jan.1, according to the press release.

It comes at a time when GoodRx is actively expanding its reach in the prescription savings market by partnering with PBMs and their plan sponsors, the release said. Through collaborations with CVS Caremark, Express Scripts, and now MedImpact, GoodRx savings are integrated at the point of sale with PBMs, reaching over 60% of insured patients.

GoodRx Chief Operating Officer Raj Beri said Aug. 9 during the company’s quarterly earnings call that GoodRx is working to expand its prescription savings offer beyond cash pay and into the insured market, unlocking a new market.

“What we’re also going to see here is that this will drive a lot more improved savings and service for insured customers,” Beri said.
