It goes by many names. Delivery. Mobile ordering. “Grubbing” (not to be confused with panhandling). Whatever your nickname for noshing, the competition between food apps is sizzling right now, as our favorite quick-service restaurant (QSR) and fast casual brands compete for delivery dollars.
PYMNTS latest Provider Ranking of Mobile Order-Ahead Apps depicts the app arms race between the hottest brands and upstarts too, with lots of changes seen in the new Ranking.
The Top 5
From the top, Dunkin’ gains one spot to land at No.1 after news it’s being acquired by Inspire Brands. Nudging to No. 2 is the Domino’s app which has been racking up great figures all year, with Starbucks holding at No. 3 with a revamped loyalty program. Starbucks is one of only two mobile order-ahead (MOA) apps to keep its position month to month on this latest Provider Ranking of Mobile Order-Ahead Apps, showing just how competitive things are becoming.
Moving on, the Burger King app gains a spot to land at No. 4 with its recent emphasis on social media marketing, while in a surprise rise, the Panera Bread app and its new subscription service jumps up three chart positions to occupy No. 5, closing out this Top 5.
The Top 10
Continuing into the second half of the top tier apps, we find Chick-Fil-A down two spots from the previous ranking at No. 6, but still firmly in the Top 10. The Taco Bell app drops one spot from last month to grab No. 7 this time out, followed at No. 8 by Chipotle, also down one spot from last month but looking good with loyalty personalization.
At No. 9 this month is the big upset, as Papa John’s popular app spins into the Top 10. Unchanged at No. 10 is Pizza Hut, whose app now accepts bitcoin payments in some regions.
