The 1,850-store fast-food chain Chick-Fil-A on Monday (Dec. 8) announced its own QR code mobile payment and mobile ordering app for both iOS and Android, but the initial rollout will only be support at 130 stores in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Orlando and Washington, D.C..
The app is funded through debit and credit cards and payment is authenticated by an employee scanning an app-generated QR code. The app can memorize favorite orders for faster purchasing, the chain said.
Interestingly, even at the test restaurants, the app will work for lunch and dinner, but it is not initially being supported for breakfast. Chick-Fil-A spokesperson Tiffany Greenway didn’t explain why, other than to say that there are “operational changes that we have to make.”
“This literally puts the ordering process in the customers’ hands,” said Khalilah Cooper, leader of digital ordering strategy at Chick-fil-A. “Mobile ordering is all about giving customers the flexibility and choice to order what they want, when they want it, and how they want it. It’s perfect for any customer who is short on time, and it’s also convenient for families with children who want to customize a large order and avoid standing in line at the front counter.”
