It looks like eBay might soon allow you to put your Watch List on your wrist — provided that wrist has an Apple Watch on it.
A LinkedIn job posting from the online auction and shopping website confirms that it is in the market for an Apple Watch software engineer, which indicates that eBay might be one of the first apps on the Apple Watch when it is released in April.
According to the ad, eBay’s Apple Watch app is being developed by the company’s New Technology Group as a buildup of its flagship iOS app, much like other first-generation titles announced by Apple. It is unclear at this point if eBay for Apple Watch will work untethered — that is, without constant connection to a phone or tablet — but the Wi-Fi capabilities of the hotly anticipated smartwatch do make such an implementation a possibility.
The job posting states that an ideal candidate will have five years of experience in software design and development and at least three years experience developing iOS apps object-oriented design patterns and principles, while development experience with Android or Windows 8 is considered a bonus.
In addition to Apple Watch apps, eBay’s New Technology Group is tasked with developing solutions for CarPlay, Apple TV and other opportunities within the Apple ecosystem. Based out of Portland, Oregon, the division presently accounts for over 200 employees.
It is unconfirmed at this point what the concrete functions of the Apple Watch will be beyond its core abilities.
