NCR, the payments technology company, will provide an upgrade to Deutsche Postbank AG’s retail branch operations, the companies said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan. 12).
Through a wide-ranging agreement — the financial terms of which were not disclosed — NCR will deploy its eponymous deposit ATMs and NCR SelfServ85 kiosks.
NCR said that its hardware and software solutions deployed in tandem will let the bank’s customers do more with their banking visit, including making appointments, calculating loans on the kiosks and depositing currency (paper and coins). The eventual plans are to roll out the NCR platforms across all 1,100 branches operated by Deutsche Postbank. The interaction between customers and the new technologies will also free up bank staff to deal with other higher touch (and presumably higher value) transactions within branches.

The kiosks will also offer savings and credit account availability to consumers, via touch screens. In reference to security, NCR said its software suite guards against malware, while technology onsite will help detect and jam signals identified as coming from skimming devices, while also notifying the bank in real time.
In a statement that accompanied the release, Kai Schlueter, chief operating officer of self-service and retail banking operations at Deutsche Postbank, said: “Whether it is saving cash given as a birthday present or the daily earnings of a hairdresser, customers can make all kinds of deposits, and the money is credited to their accounts on the same day.” The executive went on to say: ”The new generation of NCR solutions significantly improve[s] our service provision, as it gives customers more flexibility and the freedom to choose which transactions they want to conduct themselves and which they prefer direct assistance with.”
