Through an agreement with Citibank, corporate payments company WEX is now able to link government agencies to its fleet card solutions, according to an announcement made Tuesday (Nov. 7).
Citibank is one of two banks, the other being U.S. Bank, to have landed a contract to operate GSA SmartPay 3, a government payments program. Through its collaboration with WEX, the partners will provide government agencies with fleet payment and management solutions, including fleet cards.
“Federal agencies deploy some of the largest fleets in the U.S. today, and we are proud of the opportunity to compete for continued work with these agencies to optimize their operations,” said WEX Senior Vice President and General Manager of North America Large Fleet and Strategic Relationships, Bernie Kavanagh, in a statement. “Through our relationship with Citi, we’re looking forward to ensuring these agencies continue to have access to innovative card solutions that help them manage the daily operations of their fleets for years to come.”
The GSA SmartPay 3 program runs through 2031, the companies said.
Already WEX has provided more than 300,000 fleet cards to six federal agencies, the company said. The firm also has contracts with state-level government agencies to provide fleet cards.
The firms noted that GSA SmartPay 3 could see $700 billion in transactions made by about 560 organizations and agencies in the federal government.
“We are pleased to continue our partnership with WEX in the GSA SmartPay 3 program,” said Citi Global Head of Commercial Cards, Gonca Latif-Schmitt, in another statement. “Together, we are able to combine our expertise in fleet and commercial cards to offer the federal government with an industry best-in-class product suite.”
