Walmart Launches 3D Virtual Shopping Tour; Buy The Room Coming Shortly

Walmart

Four months after launching its new digital shopping experience for the home on Walmart.com, the company announced it launched two new ways for customers to browse the website, including a 3D virtual shopping tour.

In a company blog post, Anthony Soohoo, SVP and group general manager for Home, U.S. eCommerce, wrote that Walmart is testing a new experience in which customers can take a virtual tour of an apartment that has close to seventy items from national brands and its private labels. As customers explore the apartment, they can click on different products to get more information.

The other feature, dubbed “Buy the Room,” will be launched in July and is a new way for customers to purchase an entire look quickly and with little effort, wrote Soohoo. “We know that many customers shop for their dorm rooms or apartments in the summer months, and we also know that many of them tend to buy certain items together,” wrote the executive. “For the first time, we’re making it possible to add a group of items to cart to buy a complete look.” In the beginning, Walmart will have five curated collections with each room featuring up to 20 items college students search for and purchase. Soohoo noted that Walmart is seeing how these applications can be used elsewhere and will continue to listen to feedback from customers to determine how to roll it out more broadly on Walmart.com.

“Since launching the new home experience back in February, we’ve been hearing great feedback from customers commenting on our stylish home décor at affordable prices. That’s music to my ears because it means that the new Shop by Style options, editorial imagery and the way we’ve curated the assortment is working. With the addition of the 3D Virtual Shopping Tour and Buy the Room, browsing and shopping for your home will be even easier,” wrote Soohoo.
