The B2B produce market is expanding as eCommerce company Full Harvest announced it’s acquiring FarmersWeb.
The acquisition was outlined in a Tuesday (Nov. 29) press release, stating that the produce marketplace is looking to utilize FarmersWeb’s sales and inventory management software to expand its B2B services.
According to the release, Full Harvest also plans to incorporate the software company’s farming management features to increase speed of produce delivery to suppliers and buyers.
“We understand the need to move as quickly as possible to provide effective solutions to reduce food waste, and acquiring FarmersWeb will help us make our vision of 100 percent full harvests a reality faster,” said Full Harvest Founder and CEO Christine Moseley.
“Adding valuable software features from the FarmersWeb platform to our produce marketplace will help our farms sell their excess produce easier, more rapidly, and more efficiently than ever before,” Moseley said.
Giving farming and produce businesses access to a more efficient and sustainable system to get their fresh food to buyers has become increasingly important in modern grocery needs.
This necessity is being felt around the world, as a recent PYMNTS interview with Belal el Megharbel, co-founder and CEO of Egyptian B2B grocery eCommerce startup MaxAB, revealed.
“Digital adoption in the grocery B2B space, actually surprisingly, is happening way faster than the B2C [business-to-consumer] space,” el Megharbel noted in the interview, adding that merchants can increase profit margins and achieve greater operational efficiency by migrating to tech-enabled eCommerce platforms.
So, by acquiring FarmersWeb, Full Harvest is taking a step toward digitizing food and produce supply chain processes, addressing a market clamoring for efficiency to provide fresh produce to consumers and businesses in the best condition possible.
