European payments and transaction platform Worldline has joined forces with eCommerce marketplace and shopping app Joom to expand payment offerings in Russia, according to a Thursday (Dec. 9) press release.

As part of the partnership, online European retailers and customers in Russia will benefit via more payment choices using the Joom app, according to the announcement.

Joom has implemented Worldline’s Russian Payments Solution — a suite of products created in 2018 — to respond to the country’s digital commerce and payment preferences, according to the press release.

The eCommerce company was founded in 2016 and is the first marketplace to offer European merchants access to the Russian market.

“Russia is a key market for us with 144 million potential customers,” Joom Co-founder and CMO Yuri Ivanov said. “Working with Worldline made what could have potentially been a difficult process extremely easy, and we are confident that we will be able to thrive in a new marketplace.”

This year has been pivotal for Worldline as the company announced an acquisition, as well as several payments-focused partnerships and expansion efforts.

In addition to expanding payment services in Russia, Worldline is looking to branch out into the south of Europe, as well as Greece through the acquisition of Eurobank Merchant Acquiring.

The deal was announced earlier this week and entails Worldline acquiring 80% of Eurobank Merchant Acquiring, which operates 300 branches across Greece and has a 20% market share of the Greek acquisition market.
