Just after opening a second Amazon Go store late last month, Amazon has brought a another cashierless convenience store to market. The new location is the company’s third store in both Seattle and the world, according to reports.
The store, which is 2,100 square feet, is the brand’s biggest store to date. By comparison, the first Amazon Go store, which opened in January, had 1,800 square feet of space. The second store, which opened last month, clocked in at 1,450 square feet.
In terms of offerings, the new store will offer dinner, breakfast and lunch, along with snacks. The store will also carry items such as milk, bread and locally-made chocolates. Amazon Meal Kits will be available for purchase as well.
In August, Amazon expanded the convenience store concept by opening its second Amazon Go store at the foot of an office building in its hometown of Seattle. That second store works much like the first location, The Seattle Times reported.
In the first store, customers scan the Amazon Go app upon entering the location. They then proceed to shop, but don’t have to check out when exiting. Instead, the store uses cameras and sensors on shelves, as well as a computer vision system, to scan the items consumers purchase and automatically charge them to the shoppers’ Amazon accounts.
That said, Amazon’s second store was a bit different than its original location. That store had changes to its product selection, as it lacks a liquor aisle and doesn’t carry some staples, such as bread or milk. And, while some prepared foods in Amazon Go’s original store were made on the premises, the selection in the retailer’s second store is provided by an Amazon facility in Seattle.
