Life Time has opened a “luxury athletic resort experience” at the Northshore Mall, a Simon property near Boston, as shopping centers keep evolving to “meet the changing lifestyle needs of consumers,” according to a Friday (July 2) announcement.
Life Time Northshore spans three floors and has an outdoor aquatic center that features a leisure pool, spa, water slides, bistro and “resort-style seating.”
The new shopping center-based location, which will be open seven days a week, is the fourth “resort-like” location that Life Time has developed in conjunction with Simon.
“Life Time Northshore is a reimagined mall tenant that draws thousands of consumers each day to these community hubs, providing the ultimate in convenience with easy access to everything needed to support family health and wellness, along with mall retail stores and restaurants – all in one location,” according to the announcement.
The property includes over 400 units of cardio and resistance training equipment, along with two full-size basketball courts. It also has a LifeSpa, a full-service salon and spa, in addition to a fast-casual café called LifeCafe and a “dedicated Kids Academy.”
Moreover, the property has dressing rooms with steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools in addition to free towel and locker service.
As PYMNTS reported in May, the nation’s biggest mall owner said the improving U.S. economy is fueling a rise in shopper sentiment and improving foot traffic and sales throughout its global commercial real estate portfolio.
“We generally feel pretty good. Much better than we’ve felt in a long time, and we’re seeing a resurgence in brands,” CEO David Simon told investors and analysts on the firm’s earnings calls. “A great example is Crocs. Crocs was hot a decade ago, people thought it had lost its mojo, maybe it had, but now it’s killing it.”
Beyond shoes, Simon said it is seeing strength from “strong retailers” like Urban Outfitters and American Eagle, in addition to eateries aiming to retrofit vacant spaces as quickly as possible.
