Fast access to pay is one of the benefits retail chains are offering as they compete for employees to fill seasonal positions for the upcoming holiday season.
Dick’s Sporting Goods is offering potential candidates its optional DailyPay, the company said in a Monday (Sept. 26) press release, while Macy’s is offering instant access to earned wages, it said in a Monday press release.
Other benefits offered by the two companies are competitive pay and discounts on merchandise. Dick’s Sporting Goods also said it will give a day off on Thanksgiving, while Macy’s promises flexible schedules and the opportunity for permanent roles that continue after the holiday season, according to the releases.
The companies are the latest retailers to announce plans to hire thousands of seasonal workers for the upcoming holidays.
Dick’s Sporting Goods aims to hire 9,000 seasonal workers. That number is 10% less than the number the company planned to hire for last year’s holiday season. In 2021, the sporting goods retailer intended to hire the largest number of seasonal associates in its history, it said in a Sept. 13, 2021, press release.
Macy’s plans to hire more than 41,000 workers for seasonal positions in stores, supply chain locations and call centers — a number that’s “relatively consistent” with the number hired in previous years, the company said in its release.
These announcements come less than a week after Target said it plans to hire 100,000 employees for the holiday season — the same number the company aimed to add last year, according to a Sept. 23, 2021, press release.

Walmart said last week that it plans to hire 40,000 seasonal employees — a figure that’s 75% lower than the number it planned to add last year.
