1-800-FLOWERS.COM has acquired SmartGift to expand its consumer and corporate gifting capabilities.
The acquisition will add the functionality of SmartGift’s intelligent gifting platform to 1-800-FLOWERS.COM’s family of brands focused on providing gifts, the companies said on Tuesday (May 2).
“With the addition of SmartGift, Inc. to the 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. portfolio, we are continuing to expand and innovate our gifting capabilities, offering more ways to build meaningful relationships, celebrate important milestones and create even more business impact, all through the power of gifting,” 1-800-FLOWERS.COM CEO Chris McCann said in the release.
SmartGift’s gifting and engagement solutions enable brands and corporations to send, track and manage gifts and recognition campaigns for consumers, employees and prospects — all through a single digital platform, according to the press release.
While managing retail, entertainment, corporate and other gifting solutions, its intelligent gifting platform also provides businesses with data and insights
“The teams at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. and SmartGift, Inc. have been co-developing through a close and strong partnership for some time,” SmartGift Founder and CEO Bernd Strenitz said in the release. “There is much opportunity ahead to further simplify the gifting journey through the development of emerging technologies that enable the seamless selection and sending of the right gifts.”
This news follows 1-800-FLOWERS.COM’s launch of Gifts & More in January, which added to its family of brands a marketplace platform that offers giftable items from local sellers.
The company said at the time that this would expand its assortment, bring new trends to market and provide local independent sellers with a national platform.
“Giving is truly the gift, and we’ll continue to look for opportunities to broaden our product offerings as we seek to solve more of our customers’ gifting needs,” 1-800-FLOWERS.COM President Abhay Patel said at the time.
The acquisition of SmartGift also follows 1-800-FLOWERS.COM’s purchase of lifestyle brand Alice’s Table in January 2022, which helped round out the firm’s portfolio of experiential offerings beyond those that come in a vase.
With this purchase of the popular site known for its live-streamed floral arrangement workshops, the companies aim to bring “best-in-class virtual experiences” to people coast to coast, the companies said at the time.
