Affirm, founded by entrepreneur Max Levchin to provide fair alternative credit, has announced that it is opening its second corporate headquarters (HQ2) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“It was important for us to be able to grow our workforce for many years to come with superb talent,” Max Levchin, CEO and co-founder of Affirm, said in a press release. “Keeping with the Affirm value of ‘people come first,’ we look forward to building a true center of excellence for our merchant partners and their customers, as well as providing career growth opportunities for our newest employees.”
Pittsburgh was chosen for its long-term ability to recruit talent, provide high-skilled labor, and its growing tech culture. The city is home to more than 35 colleges and universities and a total of 90 post-secondary educational institutions.
“We are thrilled that Affirm has chosen Pittsburgh for its newest office location and the new jobs the company will create,” said William Peduto, Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh. “Pittsburgh is leading a new model of urban growth and development that is innovative, inclusive and sustainable, and it’s great to see another leading technology startup taking advantage of it.”
Affirm also revealed that it plans to create up to 100 jobs by the end of 2019, with a focus on operations and back-office functions. In addition, it expects to grow its Pittsburgh-based workforce to up to 500 people in the future.
Founded to create honest financial products and services, Affirm currently provides millions of consumers an alternative to traditional credit cards at the point of sale, giving them the opportunity to buy now and make monthly payments for their purchases with no hidden fees. The company has partnered with over 1,200 merchants from markets including consumer electronics and games, fashion and apparel, home furnishings and decor, automotive accessories, outdoor and hobbies, and travel.
