Walmart+ is rolling out a new members-only prescription savings program that offers low-cost and no-cost medications for everything from allergies and antibiotics to high blood pressure, mental health, and more.
Walmart+ Rx for less is one of many perks the retail giant extends to members of its Walmart+ program that launched in September 2020. Similar to Amazon Prime, Walmart+ offers discounts and unlimited free shipping.
“As a company, we’re on a journey to make healthcare more accessible and affordable with our pharmacists providing their clinical expertise to our customers,” Dr. Cheryl Pegus, executive vice president, Health and Wellness, Walmart U.S., said in a press release.
Pegus added that filling prescriptions in one place makes it easier for people to stay on top of their health, especially given the numerous “fulfillment options” and the “importance of medication adherence.”
Walmart Pharmacy also offers a $4 generics program for all Walmart customers. Walmart+ members have the option of using the store’s prescription discount program instead of their insurance benefits. Electronic prescriptions from a prescriber also can be transferred to the Walmart Pharmacy.
The prescription savings program is facilitated by pharmacy benefit management company MedImpact, and includes medication such as Cephalexin, Metformin, Lisinopril and more, per the release.
“We’re designing Walmart+ to be the ultimate life hack for our customers. It’s been our commitment from the beginning to continue to grow the suite of benefits we offer Walmart+ members. We know we can use our size and scale to help simplify things for our customers in a way only we can,” said Janey Whiteside, executive vice president and chief customer officer, Walmart U.S.
Walmart also recently partnered with GNC and will offer a selection of the retailer’s vitamins in over 4,000 Walmart stores and online at Walmart.com. The partnership is part of GNC’s plan to grow its wholesale distribution pipeline.
