Walmart+ and Amazon Prime have become leading ways for consumers to access everyday savings, special sales events and members-only deals.
In fact, Walmart+ has an estimated 51 million subscribers in the United States and Amazon Prime has 171 million members, according to “Walmart+ Weekend,” a PYMNTS report based on a survey of 2,894 consumers.

The most common reasons consumers give for signing up to Walmart+ are free shipping, same-day grocery delivery and more everyday savings. Those reasons are cited by 52%, 43% and 37%, respectively, of those with Walmart+ subscriptions.
The most common reasons consumers sign up for Amazon Prime are free shipping, Amazon Prime Video access and more everyday savings. Those reasons are cited by 84%, 47% and 31%, respectively, of Amazon shoppers with Amazon Prime subscriptions.
Walmart+ members focus more heavily than their prime counterparts on the necessities of grocery shopping and filling up the gas tank — the latter being a perk not offered by Prime.
Meanwhile, nearly half of Prime members cite access to Prime Video — a service that Walmart does not offer.
Most subscribers of both programs pay for their memberships themselves, with 75% of Amazon Prime subscribers and 71% of Walmart+ subscribers reporting their status as self-paid.
The next most common subscription status for Walmart+ members is a free subscription or free trial, while the next most common for Amazon Prime members is that their subscription is paid by another.
